Digital Mammography
For more than 30 years we have been carrying out mammography examinations. To keep up with state-of-the-art diagnostics, we founded a Mammography Diagnostic Center in 2001, located at the Kaiserswerther Straße 89 in Düsseldorf, which is run in close cooperation with the X-ray practice at the same location. If you would like to make an appointment, please contact the central registration desk for mammography at (0211) 4 96 65 60.Mammography is the X-ray examination of the female (and possibly the male) chest. It is the method of choice for early detection of breast cancer, the most common cancer in women.
The investigation is carried out with special X-ray equipment, with each breast being imaged from two or more directions. During recording, the breast is compressed between two Plexiglas plates in order to avoid movement and to minimize radiation. The compression may be somewhat painful. When the physician analyzes the X-ray image, he or she is able to detect small, non-palpable tissue changes. Even tiny calcifications, often a first indication of breast cancer, can be recognized.
Mammography is also used for further clarification of suspicious, especially palpable nodes or a hardening of the breast, or of parts of the breast.
Ultrasound is also suitable for examining the breast. While it is a safe procedure, it is only suitable for the early detection of breast cancer when used in addition to mammography.
