Radiation Therapy

Many chronic inflammatory and degenerative diseases can be treated with X-ray irradiation (radiation therapy) of the affected area, using higher energy X-rays.

The following diseases can be treated with radiation therapy:

  • Heel spurs

  • Tennis elbow

  • Shoulder pain (calcific tendinitis of the shoulder)

  • Tendinitis

  • Arthralgia (pain in the joints)

  • Arthritis of the various joints

In our institute, we have been successfully using conventional X-ray radiation therapy for painful conditions in the musculoskeletal system (joints, spine, tendon, slime bags) for more than 50 years.

This method has already been around for 80 years and has been well-proven over the decades. Due to continuous developments in the equipment and the therapy concepts, in 80% of all cases pain can be alleviated.

The objective of the X-ray radiation therapy is pain reduction or a pain-free condition in the musculoskeletal system. The radiation dose is low in order to minimize harmful effects on the body, and the level of germ cells is not significant, i.e., there will be no harm done to the respective organ system.

The X-ray radiation series usually comprises six radiation sessions (fractions) with a frequency of three per week, over a period of two weeks total. The individual radiation time is less than a minute and may vary within a narrow range, depending on the field size and the corresponding body region to be treated.

The success of radiation therapy is usually somewhat delayed, and the treatment success can only be assessed about six weeks after completion of the radiation therapy.

If the pain is alleviated only partially or minimally, it is possible to implement a second or third radiation series. Some patients will achieve a pain-free condition after one series only, while other patients may need two or three series.

One advantage of radiation therapy is the long pain-free interval which can be reached after completion of the X-ray radiation series; it is not uncommon for a patient to remain pain-free for the next 20 years.

If you think X-ray radiation therapy might be of interest to you, we will be happy to answer any further questions on this kind of treatment.
